Catching Up

I know I haven't been on here lately. I apologize for that. July was a busy month, I completed 45 challenges across 4 different forums. Crazy I know! It was a great learning experience and it is also helped me to build my gallery. Some may wonder why having a gallery is so important. For me, it is important as I want to join some creative teams. Designers like to see what you can do. I've also been analyzing layouts of other creative team members. I've come to realize that I have to work on using product as is with minimal enhancements (re-coloring, excessive blending/masking etc). While what I do may look awesome, it isn't always allowing the designer's product shine as a good representation to necessarily inspire others. While some could argue that I should be able to create to my own style (on one hand I don't disagree) and on the other hand, I understand that Designers like to see what you can do with their product as is. I am not nixing my style, I just need to show a better representation of my ability to be diverse in my layouts. July and all those challenges helped me to discover the Designers that I feel my style connects with and I'd love to work along side them. In addition, I am aspiring to design my own line of digital product. Technically, I can probably say I'm a designer as for one of my challenges last month, I had opted to design a mini kit. The photo below is linked. Please feel free to download and use for personal use only.

This mini kit was so fun to create. While my intent was to combine various commercial use products, I actually ended up creating most of the content myself. The only thing I did not make in this kit was the water lily. The fallen tree is one I actually saw on a trip to Hawaii and took a picture of. Those sequins.... they were so fun to create. Designing this kit wasn't just about learning new things in PS and Illustrator, it was also a good insight on what may be strengths and weaknesses. I truly struggled creating the papers. This is an area I will have to work on to become stronger. When it comes to the elements, I become so element happy that my ideas have ideas (not a bad thing, just has to be channeled). This was successful first attempt in my books and can't wait to create the next mini kit.

Hope you enjoy the kit and I will post some other layouts that I completed in July and give some insight on how I created them in other posts.
